Old Vines is composed of a variety of old sites from California that are either too small to be made into a vineyard designate wine, or are “new” to the Turley family (and way of farming). While Turley brings them up to speed as far as their rigorous farming practices go, in the mean time they make up the Old Vines blend. The average age of the vines in these 18 vineyards is about 80 years old, and they hail from Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lodi, Contra Costa, Amador, and Paso Robles.

Another relatively big cuvée for Turley is their 2014 Zinfandel Old Vines (15.5% alcohol) that comes from bits and pieces of parcels that are impressive terroirs, but individually too small to bottle separately. Hence, they are blended together, yet represent vineyards between 41 and 130 years old! This juicy wine offers loads of raspberry and briary fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel, good purity, zesty acidity and ripe tannin. Layered and rich, it is a satisfying, lusty Zinfandel to drink over the next 4-5 years.

Turley Wine Cellars was founded in 1993 by Larry Turley and makes forty-seven wines, the vast majority of which are single vineyard designate Zinfandels and Petite Syrahs. By focusing on old vine vineyards in particular, Turley aims to both create and preserve California’s unique winemaking culture.
All of Turley’s vineyards are either certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers or somewhere in the process, and the winery uses all natural yeasts in the fermentations.
Turley aims to be stewards of some of California’s most distinctive vineyards, producing authentic wines that reflect their heritage.
