Winemaker Notes
A complex and elegant wine with classic characters of blackcurrant bud and fresh cut thyme. Underlying ripe fruit and mineral notes from the grapes grown in the Blind River sub region of Marlborough combine well with the more tropical notes of passionfruit and melon from the Wairau Valley vineyards. A stylish and pleasingly rich Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with vibrant aromatics and a fine balance of acidity leading to a lingering finish. Intense aromas of grapefruit, crushed lemongrass and thyme mingle with passionfruit and melon highlights.
Enjoy as an aperitif or pair with seafood, chicken and summer salads.

Pineapple, passion fruit, guava, lime and even some red apple burst like a firecracker from the glass of this outgoing white. The palate comes with a lively tang of limey acidity amidst the slippery palate. Balanced and textural, this is a tasty tipple now that should gain more honeyed interest with another year or two in bottle.
Tinpot Hut's owner and winemaker Fiona Turner began developing her Blind River "Home Block" vineyard in Marlborough's Awatere Valley with husband Hamish in 2005.
Now fully mature, the Home Block's Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Chardonnay are the foundation of Tinpot Hut wines today. A select parcel of Blind River Grüner Veltliner adds further varietal diversity to the range.
Dedicated to quality production, Fiona oversees every step of their wines – from vine to bottle.
Inspired by the sheep farming origins of her
own Home Block vineyard, winemaker Fiona named her range of wines after the
historic “Tinpot Hut”; a Marlborough landmark frequented by local high-country sheep herders. Nestled between the Awatere and Wairau Valleys, the Tinpot Hut symbolizes the history of agriculture in the region and reflects its evolution from a sheep farming heartland to one of the world’s most dynamic wine regions.
Capable of a vast array of styles, Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, refreshing variety that equally reflects both terroir and varietal character. Though it can vary depending on where it is grown, a couple of commonalities always exist—namely, zesty acidity and intense aromatics. This variety is of French provenance. Somm Secret—Along with Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc is a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. That green bell pepper aroma that all three varieties share is no coincidence—it comes from a high concentration of pyrazines (herbaceous aromatic compounds) inherent to each member of the family.
An icon and leading region of New Zealand's distinctive style of Sauvignon blanc, Marlborough has a unique terroir, making it ideal for high quality grape production (of many varieties). Despite some common generalizations, which could be fairly justified given that Marlborough is responsible for 90% of New Zealand's Sauvignon blanc production, the wines from this region are actually anything but homogenous. At the northern tip of New Zealand’s South Island, the vineyards of Marlborough benefit from well-draining, stony soils, a dry, sunny climate and wide temperature fluctuations between day and night, a phenomenon that supports a perfect balance between berry ripeness and acidity.
The region’s king variety, Sauvignon blanc, is beloved for its pungent, aromatic character with notes of exotic tropical fruit, freshly cut grass and green bell pepper along with a refreshing streak of stony minerality. These wines are made in a wide range of styles, and winemakers take advantage of various clones, vineyard sites, fermentation styles, lees-stirring and aging regimens to differentiate their bottlings, one from one another.
Also produced successfully here are fruit-forward Pinot noirs (especially where soils are clay-rich), elegant Riesling, Pinot gris and Gewürztraminer.
