Winemaker Notes

Ruby red tending towards garnet. The nose is intense, complex, delicate, with hints of violet, morello cherry, ripe plum, red berries, leather, spices. The palate is dry, with velvety tannins, sapid, balanced, elegant, with a persistent and vibrant finish.

A wine for meditating or enjoying alongside typical Tuscan dishes such as Florentine steaks, roasts, game and mature cheeses.

Racy strawberries, cherries and plums on the nose with a splash of baking spice, tea leaf and bark. A medium-bodied Vino Nobile with creamy tannins and fresh and supple, medium acidity. From organically grown grapes.

The Tenuta di Gracciano is one of the oldest companies in the Montepulciano area. The Svetoni family (originally from these lands) had owned Gracciano since the early 1800s. The Villa built at the beginning of the 19th century is surrounded by an Italian garden dating back to that era. Gracciano was a very large property, over 400 hectares with 22 farms, where in addition to wine, the various typical products of Tuscany share cropping were cultivated. The estate was handed down today to the three brothers of the Seta Ferrari Corbelli Greco, Marco, Vannozza and Galdina through their father Giorgio. Currently the company consists of about 70 hectares of which 20 are vineyards. The vineyards are located on the silty-clay soils of the hills of Gracciano, one of the most prestigious historical crus of Montepulciano. We recall that since 1864 the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano of the wineries then Svetoni (now Tenuta di Gracciano della Seta) won a prize at the international fair in Turin.Even today in the old cellars of the villa of Gracciano various bottles of historical vintages are preserved. Giorgio della Seta who had worked for many years as a "Manager" of a multinational company in various countries abroad, returned to Tuscany, decided to devote himself to the family business, renewing the vineyards and building a new wine-making cellar in 2013 which has thus joined the historic cellar which remains operational for aging in wood. The company has always been run by renowned winemakers (such as Nicolò d'Afflitto from 1985 and from 1995 by Beppe Rigoli) who have contributed to making the Tenuta di Gracciano produce the excellent Vino Nobile di Gracciano della Seta, in the absolute respect for the terroir and enhancing the native vines.

Among Italy's elite red grape varieties, Sangiovese has the perfect intersection of bright red fruit and savory earthiness and is responsible for the best red wines of Tuscany. While it is best known as the chief component of Chianti, it is also the main grape in Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and reaches the height of its power and intensity in the complex, long-lived Brunello di Montalcino. Somm Secret—Sangiovese doubles under the alias, Nielluccio, on the French island of Corsica where it produces distinctly floral and refreshing reds and rosés.

This significant Tuscan village—not to be confused with the red grape of the same name widely grown in Abruzzo and the Marche regions—was home to one of the first four Italian DOCGs granted in 1980.

Based on the Sangiovese grape (here called Prugnolo Gentile), the village’s prized wine called Vino Nobile di Montepulciano ranks stylistically in between Chianti Classico, for its finesse, and Brunello di Montalcino for its power. With a deep ruby color, heavy concentration and a firm structure given by the village's heavy, cool clay soils, most Vino Nobile di Montepulciano will demand some bottle age.
