Winemaker Notes

The 2003 vintage of this wine was ranked #2 on the Wine Spectator's Top 10 Wines of 2006

The Quilceda Creek 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley (97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot) is a very dense and opulent wine that has amazing concentration and a liqueur-like texture. Classic aromas and flavors of violets, plum, cassis, blackberry and Asian spice cascade over the palate in a delineated fashion, ending in a finish that lasts over a minute.

An incredible wine from a marvellous vintage in the Columbia Valley. Intensely perfumed Asian spices, black and blue fruits, plus a whiff of cocoa powder and lavender. Lightly tannic, the palate reveals a wonderful tension, where flavours of ripe date and mocha combine with creosote and black liquorice. The long, mineral and black fruit finish is lifted by light herbal tones. Sensational now, this has at least another decade ahead of it. Drinking Window 2020 - 2030

Perhaps showing a bit of bottle variance, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon is beginning to show signs of its age with aromas of black olive and dusty blackberries with nuances of stewed plum. The full-bodied palate shows firm tannin's with a sweet frame and dark fruit-leather essence before elements of Chambord rise up on the long spicy finish with an alcoholic lift. I don’t think the wine will be able to live as long as was previously thought. Drink before 2030.

This feels slightly softer in the mouth than the massive 2006, but carries the density and gravitas that one associates with Quilceda Creek. Wonderful balance, with a deeply detailed set of flavors that gather strength as they move through the palate. Mixed berries, threaded with chocolate, lingering with black cherry, cassis, smoke, cedar, lead pencil and more.

Firm, with a light grip of tannins around a core of dark berry, currant, smoke and tobacco flavors. This has elegance and depth, with a welcome sense of reticence that doesn't push the flavors too strong. Finishes very long, with a silky texture.

Quilceda Creek, Washington
Quilceda Creek Paul Golitzin Winery Image

Established in 1978 by Alex and Jeannette Golitzin with the first vintage produced in 1979, Quilceda Creek is Washington State’s 12th bonded winery after Prohibition, but the family’s storied history with winemaking dates back to the late 1800s. Family owned and operated and one of Washington State’s premier wineries, Quilceda Creek has dedicated itself to producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of Quilceda Creek have been an expression of five vineyards in the coveted Horse Heaven Hills and Red Mountain American Viticultural Areas (AVA). Champoux Vineyard is one of the oldest vineyards in Washington State and the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown there have produced five of Quilceda Creek’s perfect 100-point wines. Grapes for the sixth 100-point wine were sourced from Galitzine Vineyard in the Red Mountain AVA. Today, Paul Golitzin oversees all aspects of winemaking and vineyard operations, pursuing the same standard of excellence that brought Quilceda Creek to world prominence.
