Winemaker Notes

Single vineyard blend of Marsanne and Roussanne from the Dabyminga Vineyard in the Tallarook district of the Upper Goulburn, Central Victoria. This is old fruit growin’ country, a high(ish) altitude region a one-and-a-half hour drive north from Melbourne. Grapes have been grown here since the 1960s. The Dabyminga site is granite, hornfels and quartz across a tapestry of aspects –a very beautiful site with sheer suitability to Rhone varietals. The vineyard is on way to being organically certified. These Rhone varietals are particularly tasty from up here.

This wine offers heady aromas of marzipan, bruised apple, white pepper and a hint of caramel. More mineral than fruit driven on the palate, it's less viscous in texture than you'd expect. Instead, it feels fairly taut and stony, with a long, tangy finish and a copper penny-like acidity.

Point Ormond is everything that’s exciting about Australian wine today: delicious, high acid, not big on the alcohol, versatile, bursting with personality, sometimes quirky, and always affordable. In a nutshell: these tasty wines hugely over-deliver for their price.

The wines are an exploration of vineyard sites around Australia, with a slight bias toward the state of Victoria, undoubtedly Australia’s food and wine capital. Vines are grown with the utmost respect to the surrounding environment.

Full-bodied and flavorful, white Rhône blends originate from France’s Rhône Valley. Today these blends are also becoming popular in other regions. Typically some combination of Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier form the basis of a white Rhône blend with varying degrees of flexibility depending on the exact appellation. Somm Secret—In the Northern Rhône, blends of Marsanne and Roussanne are common but the south retains more variety. Marsanne, Roussanne as well as Bourboulenc, Clairette, Picpoul and Ugni Blanc are typical.

Nestled into the tip of its southeastern coastline, Victoria is Australia’s smallest mainland state, second most populous and third largest wine producer. Victoria includes the cool regions of Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula and Geelong, made famous mainly by impressive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The more inland Heathcote and Bendigo lead the way for complex and textured, full-bodied reds. Rutherglen’s fortified wines compete among the best on the planet.
