Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

All three grape varieties composing Veliko Rosso were harvested as late as possible. All varieties then macerate together, giving a new style, new flavors and new aromas. This approach was a success, the aromas and flavors of Veliko Rosso range from fruity to more complex, creamy flavors.

The 2007 vintage shows a medium deep red garnet color proudly showing its age. Nose is mature, gentle, rather subtle, fine and layered. Seamless. Nose of spices and blackcurrant gives a sense of Bordeaux grapes, coming from fresher, cooler climate. These are complemented with notes of truffles, dark chocolate and fine oak. Dry on the palate, with mature, supple tannins and silky texture. The aroma fills the mouth completely and gives unique, long lasting experience. This is quintessential Movia, demonstrating elegance and complexity. It is in excellent condition now, but will last for another two decades.

Blend: 70% Merlot, 20% Pinot Noir, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon

This is a fantastic wine with chocolate, walnuts, currants and spices. Medium to full body and silky tannins. A fascinating blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and pinot noir that is co-fermented. So balanced and pretty. Drink now.

Movia, Other Europe
Movia Winery Image
Lying along the prime strip of land that adjoins the Italian and the Slovenian sides of the Collio, the Movia estate has been in existencesince the year 1700. It was purchased by the Kristancic family in 1820 and is currently run by the iconic Ales Kristancic. Growing up in the vineyards and winery on many a late evening and Saturday afternoon when he would have preferred to play soccer, the new moon rose and Ales dutifully helped his father transfer wines from barrel to barrel. Today he passionately implements the rigorous biodynamic principles handed down to him while simultaneously experimenting to produce wines of unprecedented purity and authenticity. His distinct vision stems from the wisdom of eight generations spent among the vines and in the cellar coupled with a natural intuition toward to relationship between nature, soil, vines, and wine.
