Winemaker Notes
The 2016 Margerum D Sauvignon Blanc is a straw green tinged, bright and vibrant color. Lively grassy aromas complemented by creamy notes, pink grapefruit sorbert, vanilla, white floral and marula fruit. A bold expression of Sauvignon Blanc with its natural grape acidity balanced with nuances of fine oak. The texture of the wine is full, powerful and persistent due to the lees and wood complementing the strong fresh fruit in this very young wine.

Very light in the glass, this blend of McGinley and Grassini vineyards, much of which spent time in cigar-shaped barrels, shows reserved aromas of wet stone, soft peach blossom, subtle apple and crushed chalk on the nose. The palate is vibrant with crisp clean pure flavors of citrus, cherimoya and poached pear, with a unique touch of green tea and scallions toward the finish.

Brought up in cigar barrels (this results in more lees contact), the 2016 D Sauvignon Blanc is a step up in price but is certainly a more serious wine. Citrus blossom, salty minerality, green herbs, and hints of lychee nut all flow to a supple, rounded white that has rock solid balance, good acidity, and plenty to love.

Complex, featuring honey and chamomile overtones that add richness and depth to the apricot and peach flavors at the core. Peach cobbler, melon and lemon flavors find harmony on the juicy, fragrant finish.

Our commitment is to create handmade wines with place and personality to them that are made to our own standards. We work within the connotations of nature, stressing individuality, and making a production on a human scale. We strive to make wines that we personally enjoy and our hope is others will enjoy them as well. The approach to this is the antithesis of mass production.
Capable of a vast array of styles, Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, refreshing variety that equally reflects both terroir and varietal character. Though it can vary depending on where it is grown, a couple of commonalities always exist—namely, zesty acidity and intense aromatics. This variety is of French provenance. Somm Secret—Along with Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc is a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. That green bell pepper aroma that all three varieties share is no coincidence—it comes from a high concentration of pyrazines (herbaceous aromatic compounds) inherent to each member of the family.
On the eastern end of the Santa Ynez Valley, the rolling hills of the tiny Happy Canyon AVA produce top quality reds from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and whites from Sauvignon blanc. The region’s low-nutrient soil grows smaller vines and in turn, higher quality wine grapes.
