Brilliant color with ruby reflections. Nose of small red fruits with hints of licorice. On the palate, nice balance, nice freshness, silky tannins for a salty and spicy finish.
Dominque Joseph represents the fourth generation of vignerons who have grown and vinified Cabernet Franc in Saumur Champigny. His family estate is located in the heart of the appellation in the very quaint Loire Valley town of Varrains. The 13 hectares of vineyards that he and a small team farm are located around the village on modestly rolling slopes of clay and limestone over tuffeau.
Farming and making wine is practiced naturally, without the use of chemical herbicides, pesticides or other vinous additives. Dominque crafts a focused range of wines that sing so beautifully of the region. From the irreverent bubbly known as Cab à Bulles to the single vineyard Les Clos Lyzières, there is an apropos wine to be enjoyed at virtually any occasion from Le Petit Saint Vincent.
Cabernet Franc, a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon, is the subtler and more delicate of the Cabernets. Today Cabernet Franc produces outstanding single varietal wines across the wine-producing world. Somm Secret—One of California's best-kept secrets is the Happy Canyon appellation of Santa Barbara. Here Cabernet Franc shines as a single varietal wine or in blends, expressing sumptuous fruit, savory aromas and polished tannins.
Marked by great châteaux built with the same tuffeau limestone that is also responsible for the excavation of so many of the famed Loire caves, Saumur is famous for its Chenin blanc based sparkling wines. Inside the Saumur region, Saumur-Champigny creates some of the Loire’s greatest Cabernet Francs.
