Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

Cherry-red color and slightly orange rim. Intense aromas of ripe fruit, with hints of vanilla and toasted wood, with jam coming through underneath. The palate is asty, smooth, pleasant, spicy, very well-balanced and rounded.

Blend: 95% Tempranillo, 3% Graciano, 2% Garnacha

The 2010 Senorio de P. Pecina Crianza is a Tempranillo with a dash of Graciano and Garnacha aged in oak barrels for two years, which is way beyond the requirements to get the official Crianza category. It has a strong note of licorice with nuances of Chinese ink and leather over a core of spices and distant cherries. The palate feels quite polished, with almost unnoticeable tannins, good acidity and overall balance. It is very drinkable and appropriate for food.

Hermanos Pecina Winery Image
Bodegas Hermanos Peciña S.L. was founded in 1992 by Pedro Peciña Crespo with his three children in a small winery in the center of San Vicente de la sonsierra, where only "cosechero" wine was elaborated. In 1997 the firm began a new phase, with the inauguration of the new bodega and the elaboration of white wines and aged red wines: Crianzas, Reservas, Gran Reservas.

Hailed as the star red variety in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Tempranillo from Rioja, or simply labeled, “Rioja,” produces elegant wines with complex notes of red and black fruit, crushed rock, leather, toast and tobacco, whose best examples are fully capable of decades of improvement in the cellar.

Rioja wines are typically a blend of fruit from its three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, although specific sub-region (zonas), village (municipios) and vineyard (viñedo singular) wines can now be labeled. Rioja Alta and Alavesa, at the highest elevations, are considered to be the source of the brightest, most elegant fruit, while grapes from the warmer and drier, Rioja Oriental, produce wines with deep color, great body and richness.
