Prost! Watch a tasting as we explore the quality and diversity of German wines and toast to the varietals, terroir and winemakers that make the region so iconic. As the world’s northernmost wine producing region, Germany faces some of the most extreme climatic and topographic challenges in viticulture. But, thanks to its cool climate, German wines have higher acidity that makes them light, refreshing, and incredibly food friendly. Wine.com host Gwendolyn Osborn leads this special tasting as we taste the Schloss Vollrads Riesling from the Rheingau, Villa Wolf Pinot Noir Rosé from the Pfalz, and the Meyer-Näkel Pinot Noir from the Ahr.
- Ernst Loosen, Owner of Weingut Dr. Loosen, Villa Wolf
- Rowald Hepp, Sr. Consultant / Global Brand Ambassador, Schloss Vollrads
- Dorte & Meike Näkel, Proprietors and Winemakers, Meyer-Näkel
- Hosted by: Gwendolyn Osborn, Wine Educator, Wine.com
Tasting Set Includes:
- Villa Wolf Pfalz Pinot Noir Rose
The Pfalz is a very warm and sunny region, often called the "Tuscany of Germany," so all of the Pinot varieties do well here. The Villa Wolf Pinot Noir Rosé is a true rosé, made with a brief maceration before pressing to extract color. It is light and refreshing, with deliciously bright berry and fruit flavors and a clean, zippy finish.
- Schloss Vollrads Rheingau Riesling QbA
With its mineral bouquet complemented by typical fruit aromas like fresh green apple, vineyard peach and white blossoms. This Riesling has a wonderful balance of residual sugar and acidity. Goes well with a wide array of foods. Ideal with pork or chicken served with a rich and tasty sauce or try it with spicy noodle or rice dishes.
- Meyer-Nakel Ahr Pinot Noir
This wine is a typical traditional Ahr Pinot. In the nose you find a slightly earthy aroma of red berries like blackberry, blueberry and raspberry as well as ripe cherries, strawberries and blackberries with spicy traces of juniper and laurels. A smooth wine with elegant tannin structure and good substance. This wine goes well with poultry, light meat, pasta and mushrooms as well as a spicy companion to grilled stronger spiced fish.
