Winemaker Notes

An original Rose with a very pale pink color plus grey andwhitish tints. The bouquet reveals delightful red berry scents.A slight sparkle on the palate gives the wine all its freshnessand brings out its fruit to the full. The elegant finish is pleasantly fresh and mineral. Grenache is the king of grape varieties when it comes to making light, racy, fruity Roses in contemporary style.Grenache reveals all its suppleness and cherry aromas. Its figand sometimes cocoa flavors, plus its rounded sensations onthe palate, make it one of the great varieties of the South ofFrance.

So pale it’s almost white, this grenache gris is lean and delicate, a polished, savory wine with sour cherry aromas and smoky, earthy flavor. Pour it with a fennel salad this summer.

Whether it’s playful and fun or savory and serious, most rosé today is not your grandmother’s White Zinfandel, though that category remains strong. Pink wine has recently become quite trendy, and this time around it’s commonly quite dry. Since the pigment in red wines comes from keeping fermenting juice in contact with the grape skins for an extended period, it follows that a pink wine can be made using just a brief period of skin contact—usually just a couple of days. The resulting color depends on grape variety and winemaking style, ranging from pale salmon to deep magenta.

A catchall term for the area surrounding the Languedoc and Roussillon, Pays d’Oc is the most important IGP (Indication Géographique Protégée) in France, producing 85% of this country’s wine under the IGP designation. (IGP indicates wine of good quality, not otherwise elevated to the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) status.)

The near perfect Mediterranean climate combined with dry, cool winds from the north, optimal soils, altitudes and exposures make Pays d’Oc an ideal wine growing region. Single varietal wines and blends are possible here and while many types of grapes do well in Pays d’Oc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Grenache and Cinsault are among the most common.
