Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

This wine has a most inviting aromatic profile, with apple, flower, ripe melon, and citrus notes. On the palate, the citrus and green apple flavors are crisp and bright, yet also soft, supple, and broad across the palate. An intriguing hint of minerality in the background sets this wine apart from other Italian varietals.

Waxy green apple and sour cherry dot the landscape of this textured, freshly energetic wine, which shows briny, savory personality. It finishes in a fresh bite of peach.

Fleur de California, California
The Fleur wines, owned by Francis and Kathy Mahoney, are crafted to deliver layers of accessible fruit without a heavy-handed oak presence. Through the years, the package has changed a bit, but all of the Fleur wines continue to represent a great value that compliments food wonderfully, and can be enjoyed with anyone, anywhere, anytime.

A fantastic, aromatic white grape that grows with great success in Sardinia, Tuscany and in lesser proportions on the island of Corsica. Somm Secret—Vermentino is thought to be genetically identical to Liguria’s Pigato grape and Peidmont’s Favorita. It comprises a large proportion of the whites in southern France where it is called Rolle.

Known for elegant wines that combine power and finesse, Carneros is set in the rolling hills that straddle the southernmost parts of both Sonoma and Napa counties. The cooling winds from the abutting San Pablo Bay, combined with lots of midday California sunshine, create an ideal environment for producing wines with a perfect balance of crisp acidity and well-ripened fruit.

This cooler pocket of California lends itself to growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah. Carneros is an important source of sparkling wines made in the style of Champagne as well.
