  Phil Steinschriber has farmed Diamond Creek's vineyards and made the wines since the early 1990's. Of the estate bottlings. he finds Red Rock to be the most immediately accessible, a wine grown on a north-facing slope in red, iron rich soils. The way the new oak plays into the fruit complexity in 2007 lends it first-growth stature. The small-berry concentration follows through on that promise with a cresendo of flavbor, pure ripe currant that lasts with arich, smoky savor. The structure, depth and character of the wine is classical, a Calfornia original from the 1960s that's buffed to a contemporary gloss. This is a great vintage of Red Rock.

  Awfully good, a wine that strikes you right off the bat s important and complex. It's dry and densly packed in blackberry and cherry pie filling, red currant, licorice and sweet, smoky oak flavors. Very good and rich, with complicated tannins, and soft enough to drink now, although it should age well.
