    Somm Note

    Winemaker Notes

Yellow-blond color, consistent with the grape’s age and skin. Compact and discrete aromas of yellow fruit, banana, apricot and apple which are highlighted by the balanced acidity in the mouth. High levels of alcohol, but without covering the aromas, thus leaving a mesmerising touch in the aftertaste, along with thin layers of sweet tannins. It is consumed fresh and young during its first years of line and is best combined with light meals.

This pocket-sized estate is now in its third generation, but has only sold its own label for fifteen years. Young Giorgios Diamantakos is well-trained and ambitious and offers what are arguably the most dramatic wines we offer from this region. Total production averages 1000 cases!

There are hundreds of white grape varieties grown throughout the world. Some are indigenous specialties capable of producing excellent single varietal wines. Each has its own distinct viticultural characteristics, as well as aroma and flavor profiles.

Naoussa is home to one of Greece’s most age-worthy reds: Xinomavro. Flourishing on the sun-exposed, southeastern-facing slopes of Mount Vermio between 700 to 1,700 feet in elevation, some say Xinomavro is Greece's red counterpart to its famous white, Assyrtiko. Others liken it to Italy's well-respected, highly perfumed and powerful, Nebbiolo.
