Winemaker Notes
Deep purple-red in color. Enticing aromas of cassis, violet and blueberry are embellished with a perfumed talcum powder overtone. The classic Cabernet flavors of cassis and blueberry flow through the palate, focused and defined into the lingering finish by fine structural elements of tannin and oak. A medium- to full-bodied, intensely varietal McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon with elegance, harmony, texture and length that eloquently expresses the synergy of the old Reynella clone vines and their terroir.

COMMENTARY: The 2017 Davey & Browne Cabernet Sauvignon delivers a full-flavored experience from start to finish. TASTING NOTES: This wine shines it on with aromas and flavors of black fruit, earth, and oaky notes. Pair it with the first cut from an oven-roasted prime rib. (Tasted: August 19, 2021, San Francisco, CA)

James Suckling
This bold, ripe cabernet has spiced-biscuit aromas with blueberries, cassis and some earthy notes, as well as dried plums. The palate is all smooth and plush with plenty of ripe dark berries, delivered amid slinky, velvety tannins. The finish is bathed in ripe fruit.

This is a hefty wine at the moment, opening with notes of raspberry chocolate, currant, licorice, mint, tomato leaf and oak spice. The palate is tightly wound by sinewy tannins, but the ripe, tangy fruit is plentiful, holding its own. There is plenty of cellar potential here. Drink 2021–2029.

During the 1990’s, Kym Davey and his brother, John, brought their combined expertise in winemaking, farming and business to continue to develop the estate first farmed by their Grandfather in 1957. Their goal was, and remains, to produce affordable, quality wines that express the true character of McLaren Vale.
Combine that with the expertise of acclaimed wine entrepreneur Andrew Browne of Browne Family Vineyards, a famed winery in the heart of Washington State’s Columbia Valley. Andrew Browne is the first to tell you he is a tastemaker, not a winemaker. Andrew’s careful deliberation in winemaking reflects a commitment to premium wines of uncompromising quality.
Davey & Browne represents the culmination of long, enduring friendship and a whirlwind of energy, enthusiasm, and passion to create a fellowship of fine wines. A modern, but minimalist, approach to crafting the wine. Respecting the fruit is crucial. Small batch open fermentation, gentle handling, pressing and maturation result in balanced, food friendly wines, expressive of their terroir and variety.
A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.
Known for opulent red wines with intense power and concentration, McLaren Vale is home to perhaps the most “classic” style of Australian Shiraz. Vinified on its own or in Rhône Blends, these hot-climate wines are deeply colored and high in extract with signature hints of dark chocolate and licorice. Cabernet Sauvignon is also produced in a similar style.
Whites, often made from Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc tend to be opulent and full of tropical, stone and citrus fruit.
