    Winemaker Notes

The vines are planted on clay-limestone soils with bands of galets, silex, and red clay. The fruit for this wine comes from a parcel of 120 year old vines. When the fruit is harvested and brought into the winery, the parcels are vinifiedseparately with a 21 day maceration in concrete vats. The wine is then aged 18-24 months in demi-muids before bottling.

    Clos de Gamot, France
The Jouffreau family has been referenced in Prayssac since 1290. In 1610, they built a house in the middle of the vines where the current generation inhabits. It was in 1885 that Guillaume Jouffreau saved the Clos de Gamot and a significant portion of the appellation. While the vineyard was dying from the Phylloxera , during the winters of 1883 and 1884, Guillaume decided to collect the last shoots from Clos de Gamot and graft them onto Herbemont’s rootstock with success. These original plantings live on today!

Celebrated for its bold flavors and supple texture, Malbec has enjoyed runaway success in Argentina since the late 20th century. The grape originated in Bordeaux, France, where it historically contributed color and tannin to blends. A French agronomist, who saw great potential for the variety in Mendoza’s hot, high-altitude landscape, brought Malbec to Argentina in 1868. Somm Secret—If you’re trying to please a crowd, Malbec is generally a safe bet with its combination of dense fruit and soft tannins.

Within the Southwest of France, this is the one region outside of Argentina that is today almost exclusively dependent on Malbec. Locally the variety is called Cot, and makes a dense, earthy and black fruit dominant red wine. Both the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean both have a strong influence on the climate of this region.
