Winemaker Notes

Aroma: peaches, cream, nutmeg, and crushed lime.

Balanced entry of dense stone fruit and lively citrus flavors. Coating acidity and fine texture lead to a finish of nectarines, toasted nuts and lemon curd.

Professional Ratings

Some toasty and flinty complexity here with a grilled-peach and lemon nose, leading to a palate that has a wealth of savory, peach-kernel and spiced-almond flavors.
  • 91
This wine is still very much in its youth. Currently the butterscotch and vanilla notes jut out a little on the nose, but there's plenty of ripe fruit in the form of melon and pineapple to back it up, as well as a herbal, white pepper character. The oak gets a little chunky again on the palate, particularly on the finish, but with citrusy, mouthpuckering acidity balanced by fruit weight, this shows promise for a bright future.
  • 91
Notes of pencil shavings and pineapple mark the nose of the 2017 Estate Chardonnay, sourced from the southern subregion of Karridale. Toasty and slightly nutty accents then emerge, joining bright grapefruit and lime flavors on the medium-bodied palate and lingering on the finish.
  • 90
Focused and precise, featuring smooth, succulent white peach, grapefruit and floral details, set on a sleek frame, with accents of green apple skin and nutmeg lingering on the finish.

One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While it tends to flourish in most environments, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. California produces both oaky, buttery styles and leaner, European-inspired wines. Somm Secret—The Burgundian subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style. Anyone who doesn't like oaky Chardonnay would likely enjoy Chablis.

Home to some of Australia’s most elegant and long-lived red and white wines, Margaret River is situated in the farthest reaches of Western Australia. Relatively warm and dry, the region is cooled by breezes from the Indian Ocean. Margaret River takes some inspiration from Bordeaux, producing top-quality Cabernet Sauvignons and Bordeaux Blends with firm structure, mouthwatering acidity, balanced alcohol and notes of herbs and spice. For white wines, refreshing blends of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon as well as complex, age-worthy Chardonnays are regional specialties.
