Polished and refined with a deep core of ripe berries with walnut undertones. Medium- to full-bodied with firm, velvety tannins and a lingering finish. Deep and complex.

The 2022 Potensac has an intense bouquet with layered red and black fruit, cedar and light mint aromas. This is a Potensac with purpose. The palate is a little creamier than previous vintages on the entry, but then the tannic framework makes its presence felt. Firm grip, quite fresh and sappy with a fine thread of acidity maintaining poise. This is a superb Potensac. Tasted twice with consistent notes, though the wood came through more at the château compared to another at Boissenot's tasting.–Neal Martin

Fragranced, black bramble fruit, so scented and aromatic. Crystalline pure fruit, blackcurrants, cherries and plums, with grippy, but super fine and fresh tannins and balanced acidity. You get the structure - wide, firm, so refined in terms of tannic impression, they're at the fore but so discerning and integrated, really supportive and help to focus the wine from start to finish. Precise and sleek, agile yet concentrated with a lovely cool and juicy core alongside graphite and pencil lead touches. Powerful but polished and ageable. A great buy. 1% Petit Verdot completes the blend.

The 2022 Château Potensac is based on 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and a splash of Petit Verdot. It has lots of ripe blue fruits, graphite, and gravelly earth to go with full-bodied richness and depth on the palate. It's a big, rich, tannic Potensac that's going to be long lived. I suspect 3-5 years of bottle age will be warranted here.
    Barrel Sample: 90-92+

Chateau Potensac, France
Chateau Potensac Winery Image
The estate has been in the same family since time immemorial and has always been handed down by women. The current owner, Jean-Hubert Delon, inherited the estate from his paternal grandmother, Georgette Liquard. Although close to the river, Potensac is situated on a high point of land in North Medoc. Because of this position, the site has been populated since ancient times. The name "Medoc" in fact comes from "medio aquae" which means "in the middle of the waters"…

Planted on the best quality soils in the Ordonnac district, the vineyards now extend over 84 hectares on a terroir where the typical characteristics of each grape variety express themselves very distinctly and give the wine superb ageing potential
