The three main Bordeaux varieties planted at Chateau Peychaud: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot evolve on various gravel and alluvium soils, which give to the wine complexity and a superb expression of the fruit.
Since 2012, the two sisters de Pontac, Slanie and Elisabeth, produce red and rosé wines in a pure Bordeaux style.
One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.
Extending south where the Gironde River forks into the Dordogne (and Garonne), Cotes de Bourg is a trusted source of concentrated and often, age-worthy Merlot. Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Colombard create lively and elegant whites.
