Winemaker Notes

Deep garnet red, with purple highlights. The bouquet mingles black fruits (blueberry, blackberry), spices and perfectly integrated wood. The palate is rich, round and fresh. Impressive and yet fine tannins, a very good value. A long finish with vanilla aroma. Great with savory dishes like duck, roasted pork, mushroom-based meals, and stews.

COMMENTARY: The 2020 Château Fontaubert is firm, well-built, and lasting on the palate. TASTING NOTES: This wine excels with aromas and flavors of black fruits, dusty notes, and licorice. Pair it with a grilled, well-marbled ribeye. (Tasted: December 17, 2022, San Francisco, CA)

The old the vines are planted on clay-limestone hillsides, which are ideal for growing top quality red grapes. The wine was selected and blended from top vineyard sites, with extremely modern and high tech equipment, whilst benefiting from the experienced hand of the family who have been making wine in Bordeaux for generations.

In most of France, wines are named by their place of origin and not by the type of grape (with the exception of Alsace). Just like a red Burgundy is by law, always made of Pinot noir, a red Bordeaux is a blended wine composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Depending on the laws of the village from which the grapes come, the conditions of the vintage and decisions of the winemaker, the blend can be further supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and in rare cases, Carmenere. So popular and repeated has this mix of grape varieties become worldwide, that the term, Bordeaux Blend, refers to a wine blended in this style, regardless of origin.
