A wine round and fruity by its blending dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and also complex by the presence of Petit Verdot and Malbec, which bring intense liquorice aromas. This elegant wine with a beautiful finesse on the palate and a good length offer a very nice potential. Charming! Blend: 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Malbec, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 65% Merlot

COMMENTARY: The 2018 Château Fage is delicious and firm on the palate, with a soft touch in the finish. TASTING NOTES: This wine exhibits pleasing aromas and flavors of black fruit, earthy notes, and dried herbs. Enjoy it with slow-cooked lamb shanks. (Tasted: August 9, 2021, San Francisco, CA)

One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.

Extending over verdant slopes between the Rivers Dordogne and Garonne, the Entre-Deux-Mers region (“between two seas”) offers great value and a splendid introduction to the dry reds and whites of Bordeaux. Merlot and Cabernet comprise most of the reds; Sauvignon blanc and Semillon are responsible for the whites, all of which are best enjoyed in their youth.
