Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

The 2014 vintage shows a ruby red color with glimmers of dark crimson. The nose is typical for wines from this estate, with powerful scents of black fruit and vanilla, and a warm hint of toast. Dense and full of character on the palate with perfect balance. Nicely crafted tannins lead to a good, persistent finish.
Blend: 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec

A fragrant nose that combines spices, blue fruit and cocoa. Medium-to full-bodied with succulent fruit throughout, soft tannins and a fresh, clean finish. Good now but better in a year or two.

Chateau du Bousquet, France
From its elevated position overlooking the vineyard, Chateau du Bousquet proudly draws attention to its magnificent stone residence, with its adjoining dovecote. This remarkable property was acquired by the Castel family in 1960, at which time it could already claim a glorious past; wines produced here since the 17th century have been classed among the top three crus of the “Bourges” vineyards.

One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.
