Decanter
Lively on initial impact with the bright red fruits to the fore, juicy and alive, giving a shot of acidity and brightness on the palate - really so joyful and inspiring before the tannins come in and gently frame the fruit towards the long, slightly spiced ending with clove and cinnamon flavours. Such St-Estèphe terroir markers here and you're getting that more than anything else giving it a great signature. I like the simplicity of this, it's not trying too hard with salinity and a touch of austerity showing the youth and minerality in the tongue-scrapingly clean finish. Refreshing and compelling.

James Suckling
A firm and silky red with currants and berries. Medium body. Savory and spicy.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2021 de Pez offers up aromas of sweet blackberries, cherries, pencil shavings and white flowers, followed by a medium-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's supple, suave and seamless. This attractively balanced, charming wine will drink well on release.

Wine
Chateau de Pez is located west of the town of Saint-Estèphe. The estate consists of 74 contiguous acres, with 54 acres under vine. The vineyard is situated on a high plateau with well-exposed slopes. From a summit of 59 ft. the land descends northward to 39 ft.
Chateau de Pez remains resolutely faithful to wood. The blend is composed in December and the wine is stored in barrels where it is racked every three months. After approximately one year, roughly midway through the maturation process, the wine is fined using fresh egg whites. The wine is matured in small oak casks with 40% new oak, 30% "Premier vin", 30% "Deuxième vin". It should be noted that the wine undergoes absolutely no filtration.
