This wine is dense, classic for Saint-Estèphe. Bold black fruits and dark hues are set to give a wine that will take its time. Tannins are surrounded by berry fruits and richness. Drink from 2027.

Decanter
Fragrant blackcurrant, some bramble touches on the nose. Smooth but also stony on the palate, this has a nice weight and texture; immediately open and expressive, expansive as well. Nothing sticking out, I love the crushed stone aspect, not too mineral but a lick of pencil lead. Juicy core, lots of life and energy here, really very joyful, doesn’t have some of the austerity of others. Concentrated, defined, well textured with balance - very well worked, a good mouthfeel. Intensity but juiciness and still lightness of touch, feels accessible now but will also age. Aged for 15 months, 50% new oak, 50% one year. A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot.

James Suckling
Ripe berries, plums, spice and cedar aromas follow through to a medium body, creamy tannins and a delicious finish. Some nice acidity here too. Thyme character to the fruit at the end. Try after 2024.

Jeb Dunnuck
I was able to taste the 2020 Château De Pez on multiple occasions, and it never failed to impress. This outstanding Saint-Estèphe reveals a semi-opaque purple hue as well as textbook aromatics of ripe black and blue fruits, truffly earth, violets, and leafy tobacco. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has a silky, elegant mouthfeel, light tannins, nicely integrated acidity, and outstanding length. It lacks a touch of oomph, but this balanced, graceful, incredibly pure 2020 will benefit from just 4-5 years of bottle age and should see its 20th birthday in fine form.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Offering up aromas of sweet blackberries, cigar wrapper and loamy soil, the 2020 de Pez is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a succulent, charming profile that means it will drink well young.

Wine Spectator
This has a bright sanguine note amid the core of lilac, red currant coulis and damson plum flavors. Long and sleek through the finish, with mouthwatering cut. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2024 through 2035.

Wine
Chateau de Pez is located west of the town of Saint-Estèphe. The estate consists of 74 contiguous acres, with 54 acres under vine. The vineyard is situated on a high plateau with well-exposed slopes. From a summit of 59 ft. the land descends northward to 39 ft.
Chateau de Pez remains resolutely faithful to wood. The blend is composed in December and the wine is stored in barrels where it is racked every three months. After approximately one year, roughly midway through the maturation process, the wine is fined using fresh egg whites. The wine is matured in small oak casks with 40% new oak, 30% "Premier vin", 30% "Deuxième vin". It should be noted that the wine undergoes absolutely no filtration.
