    Somm Note

    Winemaker Notes

The perfect growing season of 2019 allowed Bremerton to capture the true varietal characteristics of both Sauvignon Blanc and Verdelho. It is a zesty wine providing lifted aromatics balanced by a palate displaying a touch of citrus with clean acid structure and a crisp refreshing finish.

Blend: 88% Sauvignon Blanc, 12% Verdelho

Bremerton Wines & Bremerton Vineyards are part of the Willson family owned company, Bremerton Vintners Pty Ltd, in the geographical region of Langhorne Creek in South Australia. Langhorne Creek is unique in that it sits on the rich soil of the Bremer River flood plain and is known as a cool climate region, relatively disease free and a producer of exceptionally high and consistent quality fruit. Fresh cool evening breezes from Lake Alexandrina provide a microclimate of mild to warm summer days and cool evenings, perfect for the long ripening of the grapes producing intense and sought after cool climate flavors.

Winemaker Rebecca Willson and Marketing Manager, Lucy Willson have focused the family’s wine range on high quality and individualistic wines.

While capable of making a delightful Portugeuse dry white wine, great as an aperitif and for pairing with raw fish and oysters, Verdelho is also a major grape in the production of Madeira. While many less expensive Madeira wines can be blends of different years or grapes, including Verdelho, single-varietal Madeira represent the highest quality versions that also have long aging capacities. Sercial, Boal, Malmsey and Verdelho are the best Madeira grapes. Of the four, Verdelho is the most concentrated and smoky. It is dry, intense, spicy and is flexible in food pairings. Somm Secret—Like many other fortified wines, Madeira made of Verdelho can tolerate extreme aging and some rare bottles can still be found from the late 19th/early 20th century.
