Winemaker Notes
Intense dark cherry color. Very expressive aromas showing good maturity, balsamic and mineral notes of leather and with a nice vanilla background. Tasty with a lot of body and structure, with ripe and round tannins, which leaves you with the feeling of having another glass. Very long and ample.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The prodigious 2001 Dioro Seleccion is a 200-case cuvee packaged in a heavy bottle. Aged completely in French oak, this loaded 2001 boasts a deep purple color as well as a sweet perfume of lead pencil shavings, white chocolate, tobacco leaves, creme de cassis, cherries, cola, and smoky new oak. Full-bodied and ripe, with superb purity and a multilayered texture...

This is a very new wine, but one worth getting if you like the modern style Spanish red. Made from 70-year old Tempranillo as well as some Mazuelo, Graciano and Garnacha, you’ll be digging into a massively roasted, well-oaked bruiser. Caramel, mocha and chocolate mix with full berry fruit to yield a wine of concentration and body.

The Escudero family has been making wine and growing grapes for generations in the rugged, semi-desert foothills around Grávalos in the southwestern corner of the Rioja Baja region. Over the last 15 years or so, the Escudero brothers led by Bordeaux-trained winemaker Amador have transformed the small family "bodega" into a major Rioja wine producer. The changes have come gradually and in addition to the new winery at Pradejón (near Calahorra) they have greatly extended vineyard acreage, a very successful "cava" sparkling wine venture (one of the few non-Catalonian cava makers), and extensive Chardonnay plantings (disallowed in Rioja, but OK for cava).
