Winemaker Notes
"Dissonance" gets its name from being the outlier to Blackbird's red blend portfolio. Dissonance brings the bright acidity of cool climate Sauvignon Blanc into harmony with the lushness of Semillon and enhances its richness through gentle lees stirring in a combination of stainless-steel tanks, small clay amphora and French Oak barrels.
The 2020 Dissonance shines with a beautiful, complex bouquet of mango, acacia flower, honey, and toasted almond. Tropical fruit flavors delight on the palate with bright acidity upon first sip. The mid-palate is soft and balanced, leading into a finish of guava and passion fruit that lingers on the tongue.
Blend: 81% Sauvignon Blanc, 19% Semillon

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Composed of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, the 2020 Dissonance (a barrel sample) leaps from the glass with vibrant lemon juice, lime leaves and grapefruit notes plus a waft of chopped herbs. Medium-bodied on the palate, this is elegant and refreshing with a long, steely finish. Range: 90-92

James Suckling
A fruity sauvignon blanc with sliced pear, dried apple and some honey. Full-bodied and layered with a crisp finish. The semillon provides a creamy and phenolic texture. Dry finish. 81% sauvignon blanc and 19% semillon. Drink now. Screw cap.

Jeb Dunnuck
The 2020 Dissonance is outstanding, with a racy lemon, white grapefruit, and chalky mineral-driven style as well as medium-bodied richness and depth on the palate. It's a clean, focused, impeccably made, balanced white based largely on Semillon. Drink it over the coming 3-5 years. Best After 2021

Capable of a vast array of styles, Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, refreshing variety that equally reflects both terroir and varietal character. Though it can vary depending on where it is grown, a couple of commonalities always exist—namely, zesty acidity and intense aromatics. This variety is of French provenance. Somm Secret—Along with Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc is a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. That green bell pepper aroma that all three varieties share is no coincidence—it comes from a high concentration of pyrazines (herbaceous aromatic compounds) inherent to each member of the family.
Reaching up California's coastline and into its valleys north of San Francisco, the North Coast AVA includes six counties: Marin, Solano, Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake. While Napa and Sonoma enjoy most of the glory, the rest produce no shortage of quality wines in an intriguing and diverse range of styles.
Climbing up the state's rugged coastline, the chilly Marin County, just above the City and most of Sonoma County, as well as Mendocino County on the far north end of the North Coast successfully grow cool-climate varieties like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and in some spots, Riesling. Inland Lake County, on the other hand, is considerably warmer, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc produce some impressive wines with affordable price tags.
