Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

Medium ruby in color with youthful purple hues. Aromas of ripe wild blackberry, dark toffee and white pepper are followed by flavors of unsweetened choc- olate, dried plum, anise and caramel. Youthful, ageable tannins and a round texture on the palate with a rich mouthfeel and a long, lasting finish.

Blend: 91% Zinfandel, 9% Petite Sirah

Fully developed dried-cherry flavors give this full-bodied wine made from organic grapes plenty of fruit concentration while a smooth texture and light tannins add a nice grip to the palate. It's not quite a fruit bomb, but high in ripeness and alcohol.

Barra of Mendocino, California
All BARRA of Mendocino and Girasole Vineyards wines are made from 100% estate grown, certified organic grapes. We believe that the combination of our organic viticulture practices, coupled with our unique geographic location in the Mendocino appellation, helps us craft premium wines that are truly representative of their roots. We hope you enjoy the end results in the bottle as much as we've enjoyed creating it.

Unapologetically bold, spice-driven and jammy, Zinfandel has secured its title as the darling of California vintners by adapting well to the state's diverse microclimates and landscapes. Born in Croatia, it later made its way to southern Italy where it was named Primitivo. Fortunately, the imperial nursery of Vienna catalogued specimens of the vine, and it later made its way to New England in 1829. Parading the true American spirit, Zinfandel found a new home in California during the Gold Rush of 1849. Somm Secret—California's ancient vines of Zinfandel are those that survived the neglect of Prohibition; today these vines produce the most concentrated, ethereal and complex examples.

A large and diverse appellation within California’s North Coast AVA, Mendocino is home to several smaller sub-regions—most notably the Anderson Valley. This scenic region, with rolling hills covered in redwood forests as well as vineyards, is one of the world’s top producers of certified organically-grown grapes. Due to wide geographical and climatic variation, a vast array of wine styles can be found here.
