Winemaker Notes
This white blend has a pale olive green color. Many layers of citric and tropical aromas, such as pink grapefruits and mangos, come together to accomplish an expressive and aromatic wine. On the palate the highlight is the freshness of the Sauvignon Blanc and the complexity of the Semillon. The Sauvignon Blanc delivers freshness and smooth tropical notes, while the Semillon conveys citric hints and structure. The 2021 vintage has a very special character, in which concentration and elegance are naturally balanced, generating a wine with a lot of personality and excellent complexity.
Excellent as an aperitif or paired with oysters, white fish or chicken with white sauces.
Blend: 70% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Semillon

A dynamo with overt aromatics and flavors. Vivid grapefruit and mango lead the way, lending pizzazz that continues through the finish with salted pear and white flowers.

James Suckling
Green apples, nettles, lime zest and gooseberries on the nose. Medium-bodied with crisp acidity and a crunchy, green-fruited palate. Clean and refreshing.

Vinous
The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc - Semillón Gran Reserva Calcu is a 70/30 blend of the aforementioned varieties from Marchigüe in the Colchagua Valley. The nose features herbs with layers of honey and grapefruit, while the palate is watery with mild tension and lingering grapefruit flavors.

Sometimes light and crisp, other times rich and creamy, Bordeaux White Blends typically consist of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Often, a small amount of Muscadelle or Sauvignon Gris is included for added intrigue. Popularized in Bordeaux, the blend is often mimicked throughout the New World. Somm Secret—Sauternes and Barsac are usually reserved for dessert, but they can be served before, during or after a meal. Try these sweet wines as an aperitif with jamón ibérico, oysters with a spicy mignonette or during dinner alongside hearty Alsatian sausage.
Well-regarded for intense and exceptionally high quality red wines, the Colchagua Valley is situated in the southern part of Chile’s Rapel Valley, with many of the best vineyards lying in the foothills of the Coastal Range.
Heavy French investment and cutting-edge technology in both the vineyard and the winery has been a boon to the local viticultural industry, which already laid claim to ancient vines and a textbook Mediterranean climate.
The warm, dry growing season in the Colchagua Valley favors robust reds made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Malbec and Syrah—in fact, some of Chile’s very best are made here. A small amount of good white wine is produced from Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
