Red White Sparkling Rosé Spirits GiftsLearn about Carricante — taste profile, popular regions and more …
Inhabiting the slopes of Mt. Etna in Sicily for the last thousand years, Carricante is the dominant grape in the Etna Bianco DOC blends, with Catarratto as a possible minor blending partner. The best examples come from volcanic soils at higher altitudes where a marked diurnal temperature shift allows slow and steady ripening and the development of Carricante’s naturally high acidity.
Tasting Notes for Carricante
Carricante is a dry white wine with a medium body and fairly high acidity. Lime zest, yellow apple, apricot, mineral, smoke, saline and dried herb are qualities often found in Carricante.
Perfect Food Pairings for Carricante
Grilled tuna skewers & scallopine, chickpea fritters, Sicilian Timballo and caponata are all natural matches for Carricante and Carricante blends.
Sommelier Secrets for Carricante
A vine variety capable of high yields if not tended to properly, Carricante gets its name from, carica, the Italian word for “load.”
