Unique to Umbria, Sagrantino is known for dark and dense red wines, the best of which come from the clay, sand and limestone soils around the village of Montefalco. Regional guidelines require Sagrantino di Montefalco to age at least 30 months before release to market, though these often benefit from further aging. Look to those labeled Rosso di Montefalco (Sangiovese-Sagrantino blends) for early-drinking versions.
